Gleinalm Experience Übelbach The Lipizzaner mares spend their summer holidays in the Gleinalm hiking region. The refuge and Maria Schnee can be reached by car via Übelbach / Neuhof during the mountain masses. A truly unusual mountain experience that should not be missed! The Gleinalm can only be reached by car during the mountain masses – it’s best to make a note of this now! It is a true picture-book idyll up here on the Gleinalm: lush alpine pastures, a hospitable mountain hut, the romantic pilgrimage church of Maria Schnee and, very close by, the high-spirited young Lipizzaner mares on their summer holiday! The Gleinalm is part of the foothills of the Eastern Alps and, with its gentle mountain ridges, is one of the most beautiful hiking areas in Styria. Usually, you can reach the refuge from OberGraz after about a three-hour walk. A special highlight are the few dates on which convenient access to the Gleinalm by car is permitted. This must be celebrated: with mountain masses, fairs and Lipizzaner alpine pasture tours. Lipizzaner-Gleinalm experience: It is about a 25-minute walk from the Gleinalm refuge to the Brendlalm and the short hike is worth it! Seeing how the young Lipizzaner mares spend their summer holidays is a joy, and not just for horse fans. During detailed tours you can learn a lot about the horses' care and life on the mountain pastures. The stables can also be visited. Tickets: must be purchased at the Gleinalmschutzhaus Dates: only on car-open days! Gleinalm Breakfast  The most beautiful time up on the mountain is the morning! When nature awakens and the sun slowly rises over the horizon, early risers experience unique views and can even enjoy a hearty mountain breakfast. It is very convenient to take a taxi early in the morning from Peggau train station up to the Gleinalm-Schutzhaus. Mountain air is known to make you hungry. No wonder that the alpine breakfast tastes particularly good. A hiking day couldn’t start better. Equipped with enough energy for the return journey, the approximately three-hour route takes you back to the GUSTmobil stop Krautwasch or Hoyer. From there you can take the GUSTmobile back to Peggau station. Speikkogel: The Gleinalm Speik is the highest elevation in the Graz area at 1996 m. The hike from the refuge to the Speikkogel takes about an hour. It is not uncommon to see chamois or marmots here. Further information can be found here!
