After studying at the Munich Art Academy and being purchased by King Ludwig I for the Neue Pinakothek, Carl Millner (1825-1895) quickly became one of the most successful landscape painters in Munich. He used his stays in the mountains to perfect his amazing lighting effects.

The Carl Millner Gallery displays a rich treasure trove of paintings and drawings by the artist. It shows the path from the first fleeting sketches in the great outdoors to the impressively painted oil painting in the studio. All of the important pictorial themes of romantic landscape painting are represented with virtuoso paintings that also provide insights into Millner's painting technique.

A visit to the gallery takes you away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life into the sphere of dreamlike landscapes.
