Description Destination
The historic Glurns in the south of the mystical Tartscher Bühel is one of the smallest towns in the world with its 900 inhabitants. First mentioned in 1304, Glurns has retained its medieval flair to this day. In addition to a medieval town center, the Upper Vinschgau gem has the only preserved closed fortification in the Alps, completely preserved ring walls and three picturesque gate towers.
The historic town center with the arcades, the stately mansions and churches, but also the stately castle in Glurns testify to the former wealth and importance of the town, which was located at a traffic junction on the Via Claudia Augusta and was an important transshipment point for the salt trade. A permanent exhibition in the Tauferer Gate Tower commemorates the town's most famous son, the artist and draftsman Paul Flora, who died in 2009.
City tours are offered in Glurns all year round.
