Description Destination Stadt- und Multschermuseum Sterzing

The City and Multscher Museum is located in the Deutschhaus Commandery in the south of the city of Sterzing, next to the parish church "Our Lady in the Moos". In addition to the famous altar panels by Hans Multscher, it also houses other parts of the former Sterzing high altar, including a fragment of the shrine's back wall, four angels holding veils, the large statues of St. George and St. Florian, and the busts of two prophets.
The museum also contains some exhibits from the former city museum: various guild chests and guild signs from former Sterzing craftsmen families, measures and weights for salt, oil and grain, which were used for the introduction of standard volume measurements under Empress Maria Theresa, as well as a calibration table for length and volume measurements.
The "Count's Room" is also worth seeing. Here you can find valuable ceiling frescoes from four different South Tyrolean religious houses and on the walls a panoramic view of the Sterzing valley basin with culturally and historically significant details.
In the chapter house, visitors can admire particularly valuable paneling and a field ceiling with rosettes.
The Elisabeth Church is directly connected to the museum wing and can be viewed during a museum visit. It is a late Baroque church that was built in 1733 for the Teutonic Order according to plans by the important Baroque architect Giuseppe Delai.
