Description Destination
The exhibition presents the highest peaks on earth as well as the achievements of Gerlinde Kaltenbrunner. She was the first woman in the world to successfully climb all 14 eight-thousanders without additional oxygen and is the patron of the museum. She uses audio stations to address the topics of risk, responsibility, happiness, joy and death.
The adventure begins up close in the weather room with storms, wind and avalanches. You can find out exciting details about the first ascents and the different ascent routes, the physical requirements and dangers as well as the equipment required for an expedition in the exhibition.
Children can use the quiz booklet "With knowledge to the summit" to explore the topics independently using the many museum educational stations.

The exhibition "Between Heaven and Earth - Gerlinde Kaltenbrunner and the World of the 8000m Peaks" presents visitors with the highest peaks on earth. The adventure begins up close in the weather room with storms, wind and avalanches. We continue to the eight-thousanders, where you will learn exciting details about the first ascents and the different ascent routes. Enjoy the starry sky above Mount Everest - this feeling of freedom motivates mountaineers on their way to the top.
There is a museum quiz for children, which allows them to explore the contents of the museum in an entertaining, interactive way and using various museum educational stations.
After visiting the museum, walk along the theme trail "World of the 8000ers" through the Dr. Vogelgesang Gorge to the Bosruck Hut and the Rohrauerhaus or further up to the top, to the summit of the Gr. Pyrogas.

Im Wetterraum, wo die Naturgewalten am Achttausender hautnah miterlebt werden. Auch jene Lawine - ausgelöst durch das Erdbeben 2015 in Nepal - die das Basislager des Mount Everest zerstört hat, kann hautnah miterlebt werden.
Vor dem Museum befindet sich der K2-Kletterturm. Entlang der maßstabsgetreuen Nachbildung der Strecke zum Gipfel des K2 können sowohl Kinder als auch Erwachsene rauf- und wieder runterklettern.
Für Kinder gibt es ein Quiz, womit die Museumsinhalte erforscht werden können. Viele museumspädagogische Stationen laden zum Mitmachen ein.
