Noctalis – World of Bats
A night hike in the middle of the day, being face-to-face with a lively flock of tropical bats, setting your own record for munching on mosquitoes and a tame flying fox hanging out in the exhibition shop: Welcome to the Noctalis experience exhibition!
With a flashlight in hand, you go on a discovery tour through dark backdrops across four floors. Whether it's a cave, a night forest or an attic, there's something to learn about the mysterious world of night owls and experience interactively. With the Noctalis app, you can even observe bats hunting in augmented reality.
Using the virtual reality experience “BATVISION”, you can experience echolocation for yourself and test your hunting skills at catching mosquitoes. The world's unique exhibition concept is entirely tailored to the curious life of bats and is open all year round.
From spring to autumn, the visit can be wonderfully combined with a visit to the Kalkberg Cave. Every half hour, you will be guided down into the cave, which is only 10 degrees cold, where, with a bit of luck and the right timing, you can observe many native bats. In winter, the cave is closed to visitors because 30,000 bats hibernate here during the cold season.
