Description Destination
Founded in 1986 in Kochel am See to present the life and work of Franz Marc in the landscape that shaped the painter, the new museum building was opened in June 2008. The successful symbiosis of art and architecture offers the unique opportunity to admire the works of the "Blue Rider" in the landscape in which they were created. The museum's extremely high-quality collection, which includes works by Franz Marc and the "Blue Rider" as well as works by the "Brücke" painters, Paul Klee and post-war abstraction, provides the starting point for regularly changing exhibitions. The museum is surrounded by a small park, which invites visitors to stroll between nature and art with selected sculptures.

You can reach us from Munich and Garmisch Partenkirchen via the A 95 motorway, exit no. 10 Murnau / Kochel. From there it is about 9 km to Kochel a. Lake. Coming from Bad Tölz take the B 472 and the B 11 to Kochel a. Lake. In Kochel please follow the signs to the museum.
Parking spaces for cars (P1) at Kochelsee, B 11, Mittenwalder Straße. Walk through the Franz Marc Park to the museum, 5 minutes. Parking for coaches and cars (P2) at Kochelsee, B 11, Mittenwalder Straße. Walk through the Franz Marc Park to the museum, 10 minutes. You can also let the passengers get off at P1 and then park the vehicle at P2.
When visiting the museum, you do not have to pay a daily visitor's fee.
The disabled parking spaces are located behind the museum. Franz Marc Park 8-10.
Access is via Alte Straße and Rothenberg Süd.
By train
Train connection Munich – Kochel every hour.
Signposted footpath from the train station to the museum, approx. 15 min.
Or take the bus from Kochel train station with line 9608 towards Garmisch Partenkirchen to “Franz Marc Museum”.
