Description Destination
The local history museum in Obernberg am Inn is housed in an old gatehouse from the 16th century and offers everything from mammoth tusks, Stone Age finds, Roman times, Celtic coin finds (Obernberg silver treasure), to collections of various crafts from past times, as well as a weapons department, sacred objects and rural furnishings.
There is also the room of Pfarrer Anton Reidinger, an Obernberg pastor and honorary citizen who wrote the well-known Christmas carol "Es wird scho glei dumpa".
Furthermore, collections on pharmacy, gold washing, veterinary items and blacksmithing can be seen.
The museum is open from May to October, Friday to Sunday, and upon request.
For all sports and fresh air enthusiasts, we also offer a cultural tour, which can be taken with or without a guide. There is also an accompanying brochure, which is available free of charge in the museum, restaurants and the municipal office. The tour leads from Schulstraße (moat), across the market square, Kirchenplatz and Ufergasse down to the banks of the Inn, along the Inn into the moat and finally into the castle grounds. At the various stations there are information steles and signs that reflect Obernberg's history, which is unique in Upper Austria.
