Description Destination
The magnificent venue, the inner courtyard of Esslingen Castle above the roofs of medieval Esslingen and close to the city center, is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful, atmospheric and traditional open-air locations in the entire region. Up to 3,000 guests per evening can enjoy the Esslingen open-air cinema – on comfortable high-back chairs or lying on the lawn.
Lovers of spectacular (Hollywood) overwhelming cinema, romantics and comedy fans will get their money's worth, as will those who prefer the quieter tones or the more subtle humor of (European) arthouse cinema. This mix is seasoned with current short films. The film program is set up every evening with live bands from the region. A good service for visitors with a varied range of food and drink options, a cocktail at the Cinebar run by the Freiraum Association, a film quiz that changes daily, free hands-on activities for children and young people on designated days, smooth operation at several entrance points, emergency medical services and supervised toilets. And a special feature of the cinema at the castle: All jobs on site (including setting up and dismantling this event) are carried out voluntarily by club members with a lot of fun and commitment. The cinema at the castle usually takes place from the last Thursday in July to the first Saturday in August.
