Description Destination
Located in the heart of Munich's city centre, between Marienplatz and Odeonsplatz, the Kunsthalle organises three exhibitions a year and has gained an international reputation. In 2001, the Kunsthalle moved into its current premises in the “Fünf Höfe” area, which were designed and built by the renowned Swiss architectural firm Herzog & de Meuron. Around 1,200 m² of exhibition space is equipped with the latest museum technology and offers a worthy platform for works of art of various genres. The Kunsthalle welcomes around 300,000 guests every year and is one of the leading exhibition halls in Germany.
The most important criterion for selecting an exhibition theme is the highest artistic quality. The temporal spectrum ranges from prehistory and early history to the immediate present. Art and cultures from all over the world find their brilliant presence here: whether painting, sculpture, graphics, photography, arts and crafts or design. Monographic exhibitions and thematic projects alternate, but interdisciplinary approaches also find their place in the varied program of the Hypo-Kulturstiftung art gallery.
