Description Destination
The north of Germany has a number of tourist attractions to offer, but not many lead to lofty heights. In the east of the island of Rügen, about five kilometers north of the Baltic Sea resort of Binz, a 1,250-meter-long treetop path made of larch and Douglas fir winds its way through a beautiful mixed beech forest. From the 40-meter-high observation tower “Adlerhorst”, 82 meters above sea level, Germany’s largest island shows off its most beautiful side: chalk cliffs, Baltic Sea beach and forest area.
The path, which is part of the Rügen Nature Heritage Center, is designed to be barrier-free and is equipped with interesting learning and adventurous experience stations. Environmental education is also part of the concept. With creative offers such as amber grinding and paper workshops or with educational family tours such as “Forest Olympics” and “Nature Magic”, all age groups are addressed. For special events such as sunrise and full moon, the treetop walkway is also open outside of regular opening hours.
