New Tettnang Castle - representation, power and baroque opulence
For the Counts of Montfort, only the best was good enough. After the old castle in Tettnang no longer seemed sufficiently representative, they built a large new one in baroque splendor. The best architects were hired for the four-wing complex and it was also big names who ensured a new interior after a devastating fire in 1753: artists like Angelika Kauffmann, who painted in the castle at the age of 16. Or Joseph Anton Feuchtmayer, who also became known for his stucco figures in Birnau. The Green Cabinet with its mirror plates and stucco rosettes is a unique feature. All artists contributed to giving the New Palace a princely luxury that visitors still marvel at today.
And when you visit the New Palace, you will learn some interesting stories about the Counts of Montfort during a guided tour of the rooms and also why the county eventually passed to the Habsburgs...
