Description Destination

High above the valley, in which the Saale meanders romantically between gently rolling hills and old castles, the Halle Zoological Garden is located on the Reilsberg. It is this unique location that makes it one of the most scenic and the only mountain zoo in Germany. With over 1200 animals, from proud lions to elephants and many rare mountain animal species, unique views over the entire city and the picturesque mountain terraces with beer garden and playground, it offers an experience for all senses and all ages.
With many recently modernized and newly built facilities, e.g. New, impressive experience areas have been created for zoo visitors, for example for fur seals, elephants, big cats and crocodiles. Instead of animals hidden in huge enclosures, there is a lot to discover in the manageable and attractively designed animal enclosures of the Halle Zoo. Lions, tigers and the like are within reach behind panoramic windows, and the big cats and elephants can even be seen from a bird's eye view from the visitor terraces of the outdoor enclosures.
Due to its landscape design, the zoo is the ideal place for families and older visitors. Despite its location on the mountain, the serpentine paths also make it a zoo of short, barrier-free and therefore easily accessible paths. No matter where you are, you only need a few steps to reach either the nearest animal enclosure, one of the impressive viewing points, the nearest playground or one of the beautifully situated beer gardens.

    Directions

The zoo is easily accessible by all means of transport. Its central location in the north-east of the city with direct connections to the A14, A9 and A38 motorways as well as the nearby tram and S-Bahn stops, which you can reach directly from the train station or bus parking lot, enable an uncomplicated journey.
Directly next to the main entrance of the zoo there is a parking garage (maximum clearance height 1.90 m) with disabled parking spaces, as well as disabled-accessible entrances and exits to and from the zoo including an elevator. However, there is only very limited parking capacity (170 spaces) available here. The navigation address is Reilstraße 57, 06114 Halle. The zoo entrance itself is also handicapped accessible with level access through the zoo shop as well as a wheelchair and stroller ramp.
If you are travelling by long-distance bus or Deutsche Bahn, or if you are coming from Halle, you can reach the zoo quickly and easily with tram lines 3 and 12 (night line 95) in the direction of Halle-Trotha (Zoo stop), or with the S-Bahn (line S3). The S-Bahn already runs from Leipzig (Connewitz & Lpzg. main station) via Halle main station (for transferring and boarding trains) in the direction of Halle-Trotha (Zoo stop). The tram stop is located directly at the zoo's main entrance and from the S-Bahn stop it is only a 5-minute walk to the zoo.
