Description Destination
The presentation of Celtic life has now been expanded into a permanent fixture in Schwarzenbach. For this reason, the municipality of Schwarzenbach entrusted the VIAS-Vienna Institute for Archaeological Science with the construction of an open-air archaeological area, where parts of the Celtic city were rebuilt in coordination with the Federal Monuments Office. The open-air museum aims to provide insights into the everyday life of the Iron Age population in the 2nd and 1st centuries BC. In addition to the architecture of the buildings, the focus will be on the economic foundations of the people of that time and the crafts in a Celtic city. The open-air area at Burgberg in Schwarzenbach currently consists of nine buildings, as well as several other reconstructed objects such as gardens and fences. These allow visitors to gain insights into various areas of Celtic everyday life.
The Turmcafé is open in 2024 from April 6th to the end of October on Saturdays and Sundays from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and will be happy to spoil you with regional specialties. The barrier-free Johann Giefing observation tower offers a wonderful panoramic view of the surrounding regions.
