The Murtal Museum takes visitors on an exciting journey to the Iron Age and back again. 3,000 years ago, the Murtal was already a densely populated region with far-reaching economic and cultural ties. Who lived in this region before us? What separates us from these people and what connects us with them?
On the Falkenberg near Judenburg there was a large settlement with two to three thousand people and a "cemetery" with over 140 burial mounds. The famous "cult chariot of Strettweg", found in 1851, comes from one of the impressive princely graves. Since 2011, four burial mounds have been archaeologically examined and extensive grave furnishings found. The impressive finds can be seen in the Murtal Museum and tell a lot about the wealth, but also about the crafts and everyday life of the people of that time, about culture and trade connections, the elaborate burial customs and the innovations of the Hallstatt period.
