Upstream - downstream: A journey through the exciting history of historical shipping on the Danube is offered to visitors in the Spitz Shipping Museum, which displays a large selection of original objects from the heyday of wooden shipping and rafting. Since 1970, precious contemporary and new, highly precisely built models have been on display in the historic ambience of the baroque Erlahof Palace, including the famous Danube frigate "Theresia". A full-size horse-drawn train, a ship's organ from 1697, and audio and video stations take visitors back to the time of shipping on the Danube when the steam engine had not yet been invented, and demonstrate how our ancestors earned their living on the Danube: in harmony with the whims of the river and the forces of nature.
