Description Destination
Museum, natural castle park, cafe, regional gift shop, children's puzzle rallies - you will find all this in Artstetten Castle.
In the southern Waldviertel, near the Danube, in the middle of a dreamy park lies the enchanting Artstetten Castle with its characteristic seven towers!
Artstetten Castle looks back on an eventful history. It served as the family seat and summer residence of the imperial family and became the final resting place for heir to the throne, Archduke Franz Ferdinand, and his wife, Sophie, Duchess of Hohenberg. In the museum dedicated to the heir to the throne, you will meet one of the most fascinating personalities of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy!
The castle park of Artstetten is considered one of the most important historical parks in Austria. Walk through history in the footsteps of Archduke Franz Ferdinand and discover the idyllic bathing pavilion, the beginnings of the park landscapes of Emperor Franz I and Archduke Franz Ferdinand and the chestnut avenue laid out according to geomantic guidelines and the rose garden with its “spitting men”.
From May to July, over 1,000 peonies are presented in their fully bloomed splendor.
At the Schloss Café you can enjoy Austrian coffee house tradition in an ambience steeped in history! Whether after visiting an exhibition, going to church or going on an excursion: The Castle Café is worth a visit (open from 1 April to 1 November, Monday, Thursday, Saturday, Sunday and public holidays from 10 a.m., open daily in July and August).
The museum is open daily from 1 April to 1 November from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. – Further information at www.schloss-artstetten.at
