Description Destination
What happens behind the scenes in a research laboratory and how do real molecular biologists work? In the Vienna Open Lab, Austria's largest hands-on laboratory, visitors take on the role of a researcher and receive answers to these questions through various hands-on activities.
In the Vienna Open Lab, interested children from the age of five, teenagers and adults can immerse themselves in the fascinating world of science and carry out exciting experiments together with young scientists. Over 20 different internships for individuals or groups offer participants the opportunity to try out various biotechnological and chemical methods for themselves for one to five hours in a fully equipped laboratory. Interested young researchers discover the properties of water and fire, detect genetic modifications in food, research the genetic code to decipher a secret message, produce their own lactose-free milk and much more. Depending on the course duration and age group, the costs are between 5€ and 13€.
In addition to the regular, year-round program, there are special courses dedicated to year-specific topics. The Summer Science Camps during the summer holidays also offer special content. Here, curious children and young people between the ages of 8 and 17 can spend five days experimenting in the laboratory.
