Description Destination
The White Castle, which is now a museum, was built around 1478 as the manor house of the Nuremberg patrician family Geuder. The Geuders were members of the Nuremberg City Council for over 500 years and at times held the highest offices in the city. In the 15th century they built four manor houses in Heroldsberg. The White Castle is now owned by the town of Heroldsberg and served as a town hall in the 20th century before it was converted into a museum after extensive renovation.
Due to the history of the house, a significant part of the exhibitions deals with the life and work of the Geuders. Another theme of the museum is the interesting local history of Heroldsberg from the 12th century to the present day, which was also strongly influenced by the Geuders as local rulers. A piece of German economic and industrial history is also told; after all, the Tempo handkerchief was invented in Heroldsberg.
Another topic is dedicated to the artist Fritz Griebel, who came from Heroldsberg. Griebel was a freelance artist, later a professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Nuremberg and, after the Second World War, its director. Changing exhibitions show oil paintings and watercolors by the artist, but also graphics, paper cuttings and designs for tapestries from the Nuremberg Tapestry Manufactory.
