Description Destination

Hohenstein Castle was first mentioned in the Zwiefalter Chronicle around 1100. The Hohensteiners were rich nobles in the High Middle Ages. The castle was used for administration, governance, tax collection and dispensing justice. The supra-regional importance was also shown by the court festivals, which were attended twice by the Margraves of Baden. By 1438 the castle was no longer inhabited.

Today the castle ruins stand like an enchanted castle between moss-covered boulders and gnarled trees in the forest near Oberstetten. The viewing platform and the barbecue area invite you to linger.

The special atmosphere of this area is perfect for cultural events that take place here regularly.
