An exciting journey back in time awaits visitors to the unique German slate mine in Mayen: where the Devonian Sea stretched 400 million years ago, the winding passages of the slate mine now wind their way 16 meters below the Genovevaburg. This special exhibition provides vivid information about the work and everyday life of slate miners. Touching is expressly permitted in the 340-meter-long tunnel labyrinth, as the slate mine offers adventures for all the senses. An elevator takes visitors into a world of men, machines and dynamite. In the underground passages there are old lorries, wire saws, huge walking excavators and 20-kilogram jackhammers. An attraction for children and adults alike is a simulated lorry ride through the tunnel.
