Description Destination

20,000 years ago, the Alps and the surrounding foothills were covered by mighty glaciers. At the end of the Ice Age, about 10,000 years ago, a new landscape was born. The eastern Flachgau was formed by the Wallersee-Zweiggletscher, an offshoot of the mighty Salzach glacier.
The Ice Age circular trail describes the traces and witnesses of the Ice Age at eleven stations. The route leads to the Steinwandl, over the Große Plaike and the Heimkehrerkreuz back to Henndorf. 22 information boards tell about the formation of the landscape by the ice age Salzach foreland glacier. Along the way you will learn about and understand the “legacy of the Ice Age”.

Route info Full day tour: approx. 13 km, walking time approx. 6 - 7 hours, not suitable for strollers, requires hiking equipment
Route info half-day tour: approx. 7 km, suitable for strollers, leads along the foot of the Henndorfer Hausberge and runs continuously on drivable paths
Refreshment options: Gasthaus Kienberg (detour approx. 10 minutes)
and in the village: Stelzhamerstube, Trattoria Mario, Dorfcafe, Bakery-Confectionery Leimüller, Toramen´s Döner
