Splendor and pomp in the Hungarian Versailles! Esterházy Palace is Hungary's largest Baroque-Rococo architectural monument. It reached its peak in the second half of the 18th century, during the reign of its builder, Nicholas I Esterházy, who was called "the lover of splendor" by his contemporaries. The palace, in its former glory, awaits visitors with magnificent halls and suites of rooms (enfilade), picturesque gardens and parks, a puppet theater, adventurous palace tours, children's workshops, and concerts.
The construction and peak of the palace complex are associated with Prince Miklós "Glanz" Esterházy, who, from 1762 until his death in 1790, built a residence worthy of the imperial courts, where luxurious feasts were the order of the day. The palace complex was built between 1720 and 1762-84 in the Baroque and Rococo styles, using the buildings of a small 17th-century aristocratic residence, which then took on its present form.
