Description Destination

The Gimbach rises in the southern Höllengebirge, in the municipality of Steinbach am Attersee, and flows into the Äußerer Weißenbach, which in turn flows into the Attersee.

The stream is impressive: narrow currents cut deep into the rock alternate with numerous meanders - and in between there are always pools.

The surroundings are impressive and numerous plant and fish species are native and PROTECTED here. Preserving and permanently securing natural habitats is the main goal of the European protected area. Natura 2000 is not a further development of the existing stock of protected areas of national or international categories, but is being developed independently. The FFH Directive was established together. In 2006, the Attersee, the Seeache and parts of the Weißenbach were assigned to the European protected area Natura 2000.
