Directions: From the lake parking lot north, first walk a bit clockwise along the Mattsee.
There you will find yourself on the footpath and cycle path towards Upper Austria, directly next to the country road. Nearby (after turning onto Obertrumer Landstraße) you will find the Zellhofer Moor car park on the other side of the road. It has very limited parking facilities. From there, a hiking trail begins across the archaic moor landscape. In the forest a small hiking trail goes north. Just follow the winding path until you reach a slightly higher forest road. Follow the signs and nothing will happen.
There is a landscape conservation area around the Grabensee. It is a protected area. On its banks you can see extensive surrounding silting zones with thickets of reeds and moors.
Numerous animal sightings are possible in the nearby meadows (e.g. deer, seagulls, pheasants, etc.). This hiking tour is particularly popular with birdwatchers because of the diversity of species. If you look very closely, you can spot the curlew, for example, with its long, serpent-like beak that is strongly curved downwards.
Grass snakes also live in the area around the lake shore and we are delighted by the many different species of dragonflies.
