Description Destination

The Hermannshöhle is one of the largest stalactite caves in Lower Austria and an important bat habitat. There is a good chance that you will see one of these interesting (and harmless!) animals on a guided tour. The guided tour, which lasts just under an hour, runs along well-paved paths from the “Windloch” to the “Taubenloch”, which is 40 m higher up. After the spacious vestibule, you reach the 15 m high “Dietrichshalle” through the “Barbarastunnel”. You pass numerous stalactite formations until you reach the 20 m high “Great Cathedral” in the centre of the cave. Through a mighty ravine, where you can enjoy a spectacular view into the dark “Wolfsschlucht” (Wolf Gorge), you then go back up into the daylight.
On request and by prior arrangement, less frequently visited parts of the cave can also be visited (extended tour, approx. 1 ½ hours or adventure tour, approx. 3 hours).
The normal tour is suitable for children of all ages, while children aged 10 and over can take part in the adventure tour with a helmet, headlamp and a bit of scrambling.
