Description Destination
Meadows, forests, pastures: Southeast of the Feldberg region, the Bernauer Hochtal extends at an altitude of 900 metres. The ten small districts of Bernau nestle picturesquely into the wide open Black Forest valley.
The right place to experience nature intensely. You will be pampered in our gourmet valley by eleven inns, hotels and snack bars. Wellness/SPA lovers can also unwind and really relax.
Our main attractions in summer are the Hochtal Steig premium trail and the Zauberwald path, and in winter the ten cross-country ski trails and two ski areas.
Wood was and is an element of life in the Bernauer Hochtal and its inhabitants. The Resenhof, a wood-cutting and local history museum, is a testament to this – unique in its kind.
In this original Black Forest single-roof farm, the living and commercial areas are under one roof. The Resenhof, built in 1789 and structurally unchanged, shows visitors how the fields, houses and farms were once managed, and how people lived and worked as scythe cutters.
The powerful woodworking craft of Bernau developed from these cutting trades. The product range extends from wooden toys to solid wood houses - the products such as farmhouse furniture, wooden toys, household items, handicrafts, carvings, solid wood houses etc. are sold well internationally.
During the tour through the 8 km long Bernauer Hochtal (900-1415 m) you can visit the exhibitions of the Bernauer artisans, encounter art and culture in the Hans Thoma Museum and the Resenhof and enjoy the Black Forest hospitality in the traditional Bernauer inns.
