The name Neugablonz stands for particularly high-quality fashion jewelry and glass. The Kaufbeuren district with its world-famous jewelry industry was founded by displaced persons from Gablonz on the Neisse (Jablonec nad Nisou) in the Bohemian Jizera Mountains in 1946.
The Jizera Mountains Museum Neugablonz documents around 400 years of German cultural and industrial history in northern Bohemia, the expulsion of the Sudeten Germans after the Second World War and the successful new beginning using the example of the largest closed displaced persons settlement in Germany.
