Description Destination
The museum is located in the manor house that was once built as a summer residence for the Dukes of Mecklenburg-Strelitz. Built on the Palmberg, its garden offers a fantastic view over the Domsee to the Ratzeburg suburb. Here you can take a journey back to the time of Henry the Lion, discover medieval wood carvings, the cozy Biedermeier living culture and contemporary artists from the region, or be transported back to the 1950s. The southernmost district of Schleswig-Holstein also has many links to more recent German history due to its proximity to Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and its former border zone location. Discover the rich past of the Duchy of Lauenburg, which is also a tourist destination as a metropolitan region of Hamburg with large nature parks and numerous forests and lakes.

Arriving by public transport from Hamburg and Lübeck
The Herzogtum Lauenburg District Museum is easy to reach by bus and train from Hamburg and Lübeck. From Hamburg U Wandsbek Markt, line 8700 takes you to the center of Ratzeburg in 60 minutes, just a few minutes' walk from the district museums.
From Lübeck, the train journey to Ratzeburg takes around 20 minutes. From Ratzeburg train station, take lines 8502, 8501, 131 to the "Markt" stop, from there it's a 350 m walk.
