The St.Gallen Art Museum enjoys international renown with its attractive temporary exhibitions of contemporary and modern art. As a treasure trove of Eastern Switzerland, the museum houses a rich collection of paintings and sculptures from the late Middle Ages to the present day, which are shown in a permanent exhibition.
The building, built in 1877 by Johann Christoph Kunkler in the neoclassical style, invites you to stroll through art from the past and present: old and new in dialogue enable a varied cultural experience in which international temporary exhibitions can be seen or masterpieces of the past meet outstanding representatives of contemporary art! Thanks to comprehensive art education, the St.Gallen Art Museum is an attractive place to encounter art from yesterday and today!
The art zone in the Lokremise, the art museum’s second “venue”, serves as a cultural laboratory for contemporary art. The immediate proximity to Kinok and dance/theatre opens up fascinating content-related synergies, the raw character of the interior enables process-oriented exhibitions.
