Description Destination
The museum in Sulden am Ortler is located at 1900 m, underground and dedicated to the theme of ice. The Anich map from 1774 describes the glacier on the Ortler under which the museum is located as "at the end of the world". In the MMM Ortles, Reinhold Messner tells of the horrors of ice and darkness, of snowmen and snow lions, of the white out and the third pole. The world's largest collection of Ortler pictures and ice tools from two centuries are on display. Skiing, ice climbing and polar trips are all themes here. Visitors literally go into the mountain and can get an idea of ice mountains, the Arctic and Antarctic, of the power of avalanches and the effort artists make to depict ice. Outside, the ice is real and next door, in the Yak&Yeti, there are South Tyrolean dishes and yak meat specialties.
