Description Destination

The Sankt Ottilien Mission Museum presents well over 1000 objects collected by Ottilian missionaries over the past 100 years: zoological and ethnological rarities from East and South Africa as well as from Korea (today's North Korea). In the basement, historical film footage from these countries is shown, shot by the monks in the 1920s. In addition, the exhibition, which was renewed in 2015, also looks at the history of St. Ottilien and the current work of the Missionary Benedictines for mission and development aid in the ONE World. The animal collections are particularly popular with children. For younger visitors, the free museum quiz is very motivating. Admission is free, but a voluntary donation is welcome. The museum is open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Accessibility is provided. Guided tours, also for specific target groups with special interests, can be arranged (contact via www.missionsmuseum.de). The monastery village of St. Ottilien offers numerous other attractions (see www.erzabtei.de).
