Description Destination
The Museum Rietberg is a museum of the city of Zurich and is one of the largest art museums in Switzerland. It is dedicated to the art of traditional as well as contemporary cultures of Asia, Africa, America and Oceania. Its collection includes 23,000 objects and 37,000 ethnographic photographs and, as far as the objects are concerned, is largely accessible to the public in the museum rooms and in the exhibition depot. The building complex of the Rietberg Museum combines stately, classicist villas with puristic museum architecture in a harmonious and exciting way.
The Rietberg Museum is a meeting place for all ages and offers a diverse program of concerts, lectures, guided tours, readings, workshops and performances. The events combine knowledge transfer and impressive experiences and enable participants to engage with non-European art and diverse cultures.
Research into works and artists from all over the world is also part of the Rietberg Museum’s mission and sharpens the understanding of the specific cultural and historical contexts of art production.
