Description Destination

The open-air museum in the Zehlendorf district shows how the people of the region lived around the year 1200 - at the time Berlin was founded. The museum village was built in 1975 on an archaeological excavation site. A medieval village was rebuilt on the original site to authentically depict everyday life at that time. The new permanent exhibition inside explains historical contexts in an easy-to-understand way. A special attraction in the open-air museum are the plant and animal species typical of the Middle Ages, some of which were reproduced or re-bred specifically for the museum.
