The Görlitz-Zgorzelec Nature Conservation Zoo is not a zoo like any other. With its five hectares of land, it is one of the smaller zoos in Germany, but there is still a lot to discover! Around 500 animals of almost 100 species are presented here in natural and lovingly designed enclosures, always with special attention to the quality of animal husbandry and species protection.
One of the zoo's heartfelt concerns is to raise awareness among our society about the preservation of our nature, including endangered wild animal species and old domestic animal breeds. What initially sounds dry becomes an up-close experience with fascinating animal encounters! Opportunities for special animal contact lurk around every corner. For example, have you ever brushed a pig or fed a porcupine? Looked deep into the eyes of a camel? Ever listened to the sound of a waterfall on a bench surrounded by rock squirrels and Chinese parakeets? Have you ever watched what’s going on in a griffon vulture’s nest from the research hut or grated carrots for chicks? Picniced with a family of bronze turkeys? Ever watched an otter eating its meal, separated only by a pane of glass? All this and much more is possible in the Görlitz-Zgorzelec Nature Conservation Zoo!
There are also many cultural highlights waiting to be discovered. The Görlitz Zoo is home to Europe's only Tibetan village with authentically recreated houses and animals typical of the country. The many themed playgrounds not only offer opportunities to romp around and try things out, but also encourage playful engagement with topics such as globalization and sustainability. For example, at the UNESCO-award-winning Milk Playground you can walk the path of milk. And the discovery barn with its indoor play facilities offers every reason to be in a good mood even when the weather is raining.
Visitor service is a priority at the Görlitz-Zgorzelec Nature Conservation Zoo. Whether it's barrier-free family toilets, trilingual signage or helpful staff - access is created for every guest here. The zoo's own snack bar "our food box" with regional and sustainable products, which can be enjoyed on our sun deck with a panoramic view of the zoo, rounds off the visit gastronomically.
