Description Destination
The New Meersburg Castle towers impressively over picturesque vineyards and the imposing blue of Lake Constance. One of the most original Baroque residences has lost none of its beauty since it was built in 1710 and still impresses today with its stately architecture and furnishings.
Particularly worth seeing is the staircase, designed by Balthasar Neumann and completed by Johann Caspar Bagnato, with its statues and elaborate ceiling painting. The tour through the private rooms, state apartments and Hall of Mirrors with the exhibits on display there offers interesting insights into the living and lifestyle of the prince-bishops in the 18th century: original objects relating to hunting, music and festive culture at court, as well as a natural history cabinet that was already famous at the time. The stucco work on the ceilings is today among the most beautiful of its kind in Baden-Württemberg! They show religious, historical, symbolic, courtly and everyday images – usually presented in a highly amusing way.
The terrace with its baroque gardens, an elegant pleasure pavilion and the impressive panoramic view over Lake Constance to the Alps offers the perfect end to your visit to the castle.
