This beautiful, easy family hike with numerous adventure stations takes us to a waterfall which, according to legend, is home to a mermaid.
This adventure trail is one of the nine adventure hiking trails of the Adventure Hiking Pass. Children can collect stamps along the trails and redeem them for small gifts in the information offices of the Attersee-Attergau holiday region. This will get even more children excited about hiking.
The starting point of this family hike is the car park on the avenue in the village of Weißenbach am Attersee. We follow the artists' path towards Weißenbachtal until we reach the federal highway. After about 100 m we cross the Fachberg bridge on the right. There we follow the Eibenberg circular trail along the Äußerer Weißenbach towards the south. After just a few meters we turn right and walk in the shade of the trees to the Nixenfall. This path is well signposted and (except for the last section) also suitable for strollers.
Numerous adventure stations for balancing, feeling and discovering, as well as a water wheel make the path a highlight especially for children. Along the way, goblins and their stories by Marie Mohn await, which the children can read or listen to as audio books using a QR code.
After a while we finally reach the impressive, approximately 50 m high waterfall, in front of which a sign informs us about the legend of the mermaid at Lake Attersee and where a mermaid figure is waiting. After a break we return to our starting point on the same route.
The excursion destination is only suitable for strollers up to the last section.
