Description Destination

At 1,150 m above sea level, surrounded by green meadows and forests, lies the Kluppeneggerhof, the house where Peter Rosegger was born. The "forest farmer's boy" spent the first 17 years of his life here. The people of the area, his own experiences and those of his family inspired him to write stories and poems, which he began to record at a young age.

Many of his best-known stories are about events on and around the farm. They provide insights into rural life in the mid-19th century, and tell of a time that seems alien to us today: of celebrations and joys, of the poverty and simplicity of the rural population.

Even today, the Rosegger birthplace can only be reached on foot: a half-hour walk through the Alpine forest landscape leads up to the building complex, which consists of a house, stables, a barn, field box and a flax drying hut.
