From summer 2026 onwards, we will once again warmly welcome our guests to the Hallstatt Salt Mines. The world's most modern funicular railway offers barrier-free access up to the Hallstatt high valley. A walk across the prehistoric burial ground leads directly to the entrance of the salt mine, where the story of salt begins.
Learn how salt was discovered over 7,000 years ago and why it formed the basis of Hallstatt's wealth and importance. A ride on the mine train, fast wooden slides and a mysterious salt lake with an impressive light show make the journey into the depths an unforgettable experience.
From the Skywalk you can then enjoy the spectacular view over the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Hallstatt. History, nature and adventure merge here into an experience that deeply touches the soul.

You are in Hallstatt and would still like to explore a salt mine? Our all-inclusive tour takes you daily at 2 pm with a shuttle service from Hallstatt to the Altaussee salt mines and back. Simple, stress-free and full of adventure.
