Description Destination
Halbturn Castle, one of the most important Baroque buildings in Burgenland, once served the imperial family as a hunting and summer residence. It was built in 1711 by Lucas von Hildebrandt, a master of Baroque architecture, under Emperor Charles VI. built. Later, through Maria Theresa, it became the private property of the House of Habsburg-Lorraine. She gave the castle to her favorite daughter, Archduchess Marie-Christine, for her wedding to Duke Albert-Casimir of Saxony-Teschen, the founder of the “Albertina” in Vienna. As a special gift, Maria Theresa had the impressive ceiling fresco “Allegory of Time and Light” by Franz Anton Maulbertsch created in 1756.
Many important personalities from Austria and Hungary shaped the history of the castle, which is still privately owned today.
Today, Halbturn Castle with its magnificent park is a popular tourist destination and cultural center. A variety of events take place here throughout the year: annually changing exhibitions, the renowned concert series “Halbturner Schlosskonzerte”, the atmospheric “Gartenlust” fair and the festive “Pannonian Christmas Market” make the castle a cultural and festive meeting place in every season.

Motorway A4 towards Budapest, exit Mönchhof, turn right towards Mönchhofer Landstraße L303, take the third exit at the roundabout (Halbturnerstr./L211), after about 2.3 km turn left onto Halbturn-Kaiserberg, after about 300 meters turn right to the castle.
