Description Destination

Linderhof Palace and Park are one of the most diverse and artistic ensembles of the 19th century. The "Royal Villa" is the only palace that King Ludwig II of Bavaria (1845-1886) was able to complete (1878). It is influenced by France: the model is the small “pleasure palace”, usually located in a park, as it was built in France in the 18th century and was also often built in Germany in the parks of large palaces.
The park of Linderhof Castle is one of the finest of its era. It combines elements of the French Baroque garden and the English landscape garden.
The park buildings Moroccan House and Moorish Kiosk originate from the oriental fashion that Ludwig II also cultivated. The three "stage sets" erected in the park - Hunding's Hut, Gurnemanz's Hermitage and Venus Grotto - stem from Ludwig's enthusiasm for Richard Wagner's music dramas.
The surrounding mountain nature is incorporated into this ingenious work of art through sight lines and kilometers of paths that lead deep into the mountain forest.
