In Welschdörfli, the old town south of the Plessur, several prehistoric settlements and the remains of a Roman road station were found. The Roman conquest campaign over 2000 years ago is an important part of Chur's settlement history. Excavations and finds from this period can be viewed on the Ackermann site on Seilerbahnweg.

The protective structures over the archaeological finds from Roman times were built in 1986 according to plans by the Graubünden architect Peter Zumthor. They are both a protective shell for the archaeological finds and a museum and architectural jewel. The filigree slatted construction gives an idea of ​​the original dimensions of the Roman buildings.
