Description Destination
The Swabian Nativity Scene Museum is a unique experience museum that allows visitors to continually engage in dialogue with the exhibits. The many contents surrounding the nativity scenes and Christ children are revealed in a playful way. The atmospheric aesthetic design of the entire museum has a very special effect, making visitors forget time and space. The many precious nativity scenes, Christ Child figures and paintings shine with elaborate staging.
Interactive media stations demonstrate the origins and worldwide distribution of nativity scenes. Films explain the Star of Bethlehem, tell the story of the birth of Jesus or take visitors right into the middle of the large Jesuit nativity scene. Children can look forward to their own play stations, which the crèche brings to them in a contemporary way. Important topics include the “invention” of the Christ children in Swabian women’s monasteries, the topicality of the Christmas message or the “nativity fever” in Swabia. Visitors can experience all of this in Mindelheim, the cradle of Swabian nativity traditions.
It was awarded the Swabian Museum Prize in 2019.
