Description Destination

The Taurachbahn, which takes its name from the mountain river Taurach, which rises in the Tauern and accompanies the railway almost the entire route from Mauterndorf to St. Andrä, is a narrow-gauge railway with a track width of 760 mm and is operated by Club 760 - Association of Friends of the Murtalbahn. The route was originally part of the Murtalbahn and was closed in 1981. The Club 760 has been operating the Taurachbahn as a tourist railway since . The starting point is Mauterndorf station, which with its station building, engine house and warehouse represents a typical ensemble of a terminus of Austrian narrow-gauge railways. The train then travels in a large arc past the Mauterndorf gliding airport and continues through extensive meadows and fields, a forest to the current terminus station St. Andrä-Andlwirt. It passes the "Gröbendorf" stop, the Maria Pfarr train station and the "Lintsching" stop. The Taurachbahn is operated exclusively by volunteers, all of whom, whether locomotive crews, train attendants, etc., have the appropriate training and examinations. In keeping with our motto "A heart for the narrow gauge", we want to present the technology of days gone by to young and old, and we are delighted when not only the children's eyes light up at the sight of the steaming locomotives. A trip on the Taurachbahn means experiencing the slowness of time on narrow tracks.

Thanks to the managing director and board member of Club 760, Mr. August Zopf, we managed to save several remaining vehicles from the old Ischlerbahn, which were scattered to the four winds after the end of the SKGLB and are now located at the Taurachbahn.
