In the past, coal was mined here; today it is home to the spirit of discovery - of young and old. There is plenty of space for adventure and fun on the 100-hectare site of the UNESCO World Heritage Site Zollverein. The former mine and coking plant is the ideal destination for families with children – with many activities both indoors and outdoors.
Numerous guided tours, events and holiday programs are available to choose from and make a stay at Zollverein an experience for all age groups. In summer, the company swimming pool awaits those who are keen to get out and about, and in winter, the 150-metre-long Zollverein ice rink opens.
The Zollverein tours offer a day full of discovery and fun for children. The young visitors get an insight into the gigantic processes that used to take place at the Zollverein mine or coking plant. In addition to family rallies through all exhibitions, the Ruhr Museum also offers many exciting guided tours and workshops for explorers of all ages. There are special tours for birthday children that will make the visit to Zollverein with friends unforgettable.
Anyone who wants to explore the World Heritage site in a sporty way can do so by playing soccer golf. The mix of football and golf is a free Zollverein offer for the whole family. A special challenge at the World Heritage Site is the parkour facility. A particularly creative type of locomotion technology is required there.
