Description Destination

On the right bank of the Salzach rises the 640m high Kapuzinerberg, which together with the Mönchsberg and the Festungsberg frame the old town of Salzburg. Here you can go on a hiking tour in the middle of the city.
The best place to start is from Linzer Gasse through the Franziskuspforte and follow the road uphill to the Franciscan monastery. From there you have a wonderful view of the city. Now you can either walk through the forest or continue walking along the 400-year-old defensive wall. With its defensive towers, this is the ideal backdrop for knights' games and there is plenty of space to run and romp around. But it is also worth keeping quiet, because you might catch a glimpse of the world's only chamois colony in the middle of a city! If you want to take a different route down, the best way to go is via the 261 steps of the Imbergstiege, which leads to Steingasse.
