Like pearls on a string, the lakes lie in one of Germany's most beautiful natural landscapes, around 65 km southeast of Berlin. The Scharmützelsee, which is around 13 km² in size, and the slightly smaller Storkower See are treasures of the Margraviate of Brandenburg. From a bird's eye view, these two lakes form an oversized V, with Storkow and Bad Saarow at the two upper ends and Wendisch Rietz at the lower tip.
