The Wels Region Tourism Association, consisting of the city of Wels and the towns of Sattledt and Kremsmünster, is located in the middle of central Upper Austria.
The importance of this area around Wels, located just north of the Alps, was already recognized by the Romans, which is why they expanded Ovilava (Wels) into the provincial capital. A fortified town on the Traun, which was supplied by the numerous estates in the surrounding area and gained enormous importance due to its location on the important trade routes.
Even today, the region, whose economic engine is the city of Wels, scores points with the diversity between town and country. While Wels, with its extensive history, is a vibrant economic and commercial city that inspires with an extensive event program, interesting trade fairs and great museums such as the Welios, there are numerous recreational areas in the surrounding area and on the Traun. Idyllic recreational trails and cycle paths crisscross the area and invite you to explore the surroundings without a car. The Wels racing bike region is particularly popular with racing cyclists due to its numerous low-traffic side roads.
A visit to Kremsmünster Abbey, with its famous Tassilo Chalice and its breathtaking library, is a must.
An additional advantage is the perfect infrastructure, the excellent transport connections in all directions and the public accessibility via the Western Railway line.
