Sand in Taufers welcomes its visitors broadly and openly as they enter the valley, only to suddenly shrink back down behind Taufers Castle. The medieval castle stands there, massive, like a thick block with several towers, as if it wanted to prevent travelers from continuing on to the Ahrntal, encouraging them to pause for a moment. Finally, between Gais and the main town of Sand in Taufers, landscapes reveal themselves that could hardly be more exciting. In the middle of the Rieserferner-Ahrn Nature Park, where mountains try to outdo each other in height, steep slopes, dense forests, lonely peaks and wild waters fascinate. Mountain lakes, streams, the wild Ahr and the roaring waterfalls - the water of the valley contains the power of the mountains.
