With a length of around 39 km from the Archaeological Museum of the City of Kelheim to the
Alcmona Adventure Park in Dietfurt, the Altmühltal Archaeological Park is the longest archaeological park in Europe. All stations are accessible free of charge at any time. The route is mostly flat along the
Altmühltal cycle path. This means that the 18 stations of the archaeological park are particularly convenient for cyclists and pedestrians. But drivers and bus travelers can also easily reach most of the stations.
In an extensive annual program, there is something for young and old: The events are designed for children and/or adults or families. Forge Celtic objects, explore the park on guided hikes - on foot or by bike - and visit one of the numerous
events in the Archaeological Museum of the City of Kelheim or in the Alcmona Adventure Village. Many of the courses, tours and activities on offer can also be booked for family, club or company outings.

The archaeological exhibition in the medieval Herzogkasten shows the continuous settlement of the area from the Neanderthals in the caves of the Altmühltal to the Wittelsbach ducal castle in Kelheim.
Original finds such as a strange bread loaf idol, probably the longest bronze needle in the world, a tiny Celtic vulture head, the "Long Lulatsch" or a Roman treasure are supplemented by reconstructions, illustrations and models. They tell the history(s) of people from the hunters and gatherers of the Ice Age to the noble Bavarians. -

Archaeological excavations have shown that prehistoric settlements from the Stone Age, Bronze Age and Iron Age existed in the area around Dietfurt in the Altmühltal Nature Park.
As interest and enthusiasm for these historical finds continued to grow, in 2000 it was time to set up a support association in Dietfurt, whose task was to build the "ALCMONA adventure village" in great detail.
In a first expansion phase, up to 17 buildings will be built on the 3.5 hectare site adjacent to the existing Bronze Age longhouse, giving visitors the impression that they are in a prehistoric village. The focus is initially on the Bronze Age to Iron Age eras (approx. 1600 - 450 BC). The different house sizes correspond to the archaeological findings and the former use of the buildings.
